‘Lloyd District’ Neighborhood Becomes ‘Lloyd’ Jun. 26, 2018, news releases Dropping “District” Reflects Dynamic Neighborhood Changes From Go Lloyd The Lloyd community is excited to announce the renaming and rebranding of its neighborhood from the “Lloyd District” to “Lloyd.” The new, more modern naming approach is both a reflection of a neighborhood undergoing tremendous growth, while maintaining an appreciation of the area’s rich history. The new Lloyd logo reflects the neighborhood’s commitment to its innovative EcoDistrict and sustainability (green), its dense, urban residential and employment opportunities (grey), and the connection to the Willamette River (blue). “Dropping ‘district’ makes sense,” said Hank Ashforth, Lloyd Enhanced Services District Chair. “‘Lloyd’ is fresh and modern, and better represents the diverse and lively businesses of the neighborhood. The word ‘district’ is more of a throw-back to a drab, emptying-out-at-five-p.m. employment area. We are so much more today.” Travelers to Lloyd will see street banners and retail store window clings with the new logo and name throughout the Lloyd neighborhood. The name change to “Lloyd” is timely with the growth happening within the community. There are several construction projects currently in production in the neighborhood and even more slated for the future. The development of the 600-room Hyatt Regency Hotel at the Oregon Convention Center and the $75 million renovation project at Lloyd Center are currently underway, and the construction of over 1,200 apartment units and 45,000 square feet of retail space will begin soon across the street and adjacent to Lloyd Center. “We feel that the name change to ‘Lloyd’ reflects the changes happening in our neighborhood and allows us to grow as a dynamic community together,” said Ashforth. New construction will inevitably lead to an influx of people and the use of resources, and Lloyd is firmly committed to creating a more sustainable environment and reducing its carbon footprint. The Lloyd EcoDistrict works with neighborhood stakeholders to support and prioritize environmental quality, as well as social welfare and prosperity. As one of Portland’s most accessible neighborhoods, Lloyd is home to a growing number of buffered and protected bike lanes, hosts over 12,000 bike parking spaces, and has a dedicated transportation management association, Go Lloyd, to assist residents, employees and businesses with their individual transportation needs. Through these initiatives and the work of the local neighborhood association, Lloyd Community Association, Lloyd is working towards achieving its goal to “create one of the most desirable and innovatively sustainable urban neighborhoods in the nation.” Media Contact: Owen Ronchelli 503-236-6441 Owen@golloyd.org About Lloyd Enhanced Services District The Lloyd Enhanced Services District (ESD) is a private, non-profit established in 2001 to encourage growth in Lloyd and ensure the continued health of, and pride in, the Lloyd neighborhood by making it a better place to live, work, and visit. Lloyd ESD core programs are supported by a property management license fee and focus on public safety, transportation access, sustainability, economic development, and neighborhood advocacy. The transportation program is led by Go Lloyd, which provides an array of transportation options and services to neighborhood businesses, employees and residents. The Lloyd EcoDistrict works with neighborhood stakeholders to support prosperity, environmental quality, and social welfare. The EcoDistrict prioritizes projects and programs that address water, energy, waste, and education. The Lloyd safety program is coordinated through the office of Multnomah County Neighborhood District Attorney, which prosecutes crimes committed in Lloyd.
